Background The La Pérouse expedition (1785–1788), led by Jean-François de Galaup, comte de La Pérouse, is renowned for mapping uncharted Pacific coastlines and documenting indigenous cultures, significantly enriching European geographic and ethnographic knowledge. Jean François de Galaup, comte de Lapérouse (French:  23 August 1741 – c. 1788) was a French Navy officer and explorer. Having enlisted in the Navy at the age of 15, he had a successful career and in 1785 was appointed to lead a scientific expedition around the world. His ships stopped in Chile, Hawaii, Alaska, California, Macau, the Philippines, Korea, Russia, Japan, Samoa, Tonga, and Australia before wrecking on the reefs of Vanikoro in the Solomon Islands. Documents that had been relayed to France from Lapérouse's expedition were published in Paris in 1797, under the title Voyage de La Pérouse autour du monde ("The voyage of La Pérouse around the world") About Your Purchase: - Your purchase is this ORIGINAL antique hand-coloured print.
