This original hand-coloured print depicts three ibis and spoonbill species standing against a neutral backdrop. It measures 8.5 x 5.5 inches and was sourced from the “Animal Kingdom” natural history series. Published c.1836 by G. Henederson, London. > Visual Description: > Three finely detailed wading birds are arranged vertically: from the bottom, a glossy green-ish ibis (#1), a white ibis with red head and yellow bill (#2), and a roseate spoonbill with pink-striped plumage (#3). Above them are precision line sketches of bill anatomy labelled “3 a” and “3 b.” All figures are set within a simple ruled border. > Transcribed Text: > Animal Kingdom. Aves Pl. 67 > 1. Rhynchops leucostomus Linn. (The American Spoon Bill) 2. Tantalus rufus Linn. (The African Ibis) 3. Platalea ajaja Todd. (The South American Spoon Bill) Produced on good quality paper with original hand colouring. The back is unmarked except for a small pencilled “13” reference number and slight toning; no writing.
