1811 La Belle Assemblee Fashion Magazine Regency Opera Dress Print - Original Antique Hand-Coloured - Period Fashion Costume - 5.25 x 9 in
Antique hand-coloured engraving depicting elegant opera attire with blue satin bodice and brown tunic, from the 19th number of the New Series of La Belle Assemblee British fashion magazine, July 1st 1811.
Finely detailed intaglio engraving with period hand-colouring in blue, brown, white and green tones. Features woman holding monocular with silver network at bosom and sleeves, diamond shoulder studs, and foil chaplet in curled hair.
La Belle Assemblee was a British fashion and literary magazine published from 1806 to 1832, and then under a different name until 1868
The print is described in the magazine as follows: “A blue satin robe, worn over a slip of white satin, let in at the bosom and sleeves (which are short) with silver Moravian net work. A tunic of Egyptian brown sarsnet or crape, confined on the shoulder with diamond studs, and trimmed round the bottom with silver net, separated in small divisions by spangled open work balls. A chaplet wreath of green foil, placed twice round the hair, which is disposed in irregular ringlets. Earrings of silver open work, studded with brilliants, resembling in form the bell of a child’s coral. Shoes of brown satin, bound and sandalled with silver braiding. Long gloves of white kid.”
Great for fashion historians, Regency period enthusiasts, and costume design collectors.
**Condition** Fair to Good, consistent with age. Some discolouration around edges and slight marks. The reverse is blank. Right edge shows traces of original binding.
