Ugada giovanrinnae is found in Central Africa and belongs to the singing cicadas. Cicadas are plant sap suckers. The short antennae are bristle-like, "bristle-horned." Besides the two insect-typical compound eyes, there are also three ocelli arranged in a triangle on the head, along with indentations, dots, grooves, notches—structures known as subocular ridges. All of these names sound highly technical. These additional light-sensitive organs help with orientation, though it’s not yet certain exactly how. Also clearly visible is the massive middle thorax, which houses the enormous flight musculature for the front and most important pair of wings. The hind wings remain hidden under the large front pair and move passively with them. At rest, the wings are folded roof-like over the abdomen. The opened wings give a view of the hind body.
