This original hand-coloured print depicts five species of Volitores including the Common Goat Sucker, Bee-eater, Edible-nest Swiftlet, and two hummingbirds. It measures 9.5x 6.25 inches.
> This antique plate presents a richly detailed composition of five Volitores (fruit-eating and insectivorous birds): the Common Goat Sucker (Caprimulgus europaeus) perched on a branch; the vividly coloured Bee-eater (Merops apiaster); the Edible-nest Swiftlet (Collocalia nidifica) shown by its nest; the Plover Crest Humming Bird (Cephalolepis delalandi); and the Purple-breasted Carib Humming Bird (Eulampis jugularis). Hand-coloured engraving on cream paper, framed by a delicate gilt border.
