c.1890 Chess Players - Etching Signed By Frank Willis - Victorian Genre Scene Period Costume Figure Study Portrait Art - 9.2 x 6.9 in

Plate engraving of two gentlemen absorbed in a chess match, published c.1890. Signed by the well-known artist and engraver Frank Willis in the lower right margin. Page measures 9 × 7 in. Fine steel or wood engraving in monochrome black and warm sepia tones, depicting two figures in 18th-century dress — frock coats, breeches, and buckled shoes — seated at a marquetry games table. Hatching and cross-hatching render fabric texture and interior shadow with precision. The pencil signature by Willis confirms that this is a lifetime engraving and not a mass produced copy. Great for chess enthusiasts, Victorian genre art collectors, and period costume or interior history researchers.
